WORTHING WAIT FOR HITE CONTINUES
- Updated: September 23, 2010
Worthing Thunder will continue talks with American Rick Hite to become their player-coach, despite the saga dragging into the new season.
MVP has learnt that Hite remains in the frame to take charge of the south coast outfit but after over two months of negotiations with club owner Frank Gainsbury, time is running out to conclude a move.
The deal would also likely encompass an investment from a third-party, understood to be from former NBA player Cuttino Mobley, an acquaintance of Hite’s from when both grew up in Philadelphia.
Hite played collegiately at San Jose State University and is thought to have played professionally in Europe as well as helping to organise basketball camps in his native USA.
While Worthing officials have declined to comment on the talks, director of operations Alan Sweetman-Hicks expects no move before this weekend’s meeting with Guildford Heat.
“We are not anticipating having the new coach or any American players in place by this weekend so will continue with our all-European squad,†he said.
“I would certainly hope that we will have John Nottley available this weekend and that the Spanish Federation will issue his international clearance so he can play.â€
