POPS SECURES HORNETS ROSTER SPOT
- Updated: October 26, 2010
Team GB forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu has made the New Orleans Hornets’ opening day roster – meaning his contract is guaranteed for the entire season.
It represents the first bit of stability in the 27-year-old’s pro career – he’s bounced around the D-League, had various short term NBA contracts and stints in Europe since leaving George Washington University in 2006.
Meanwhile, the Hornets announced over the weekend that they’d acquired guard Jerryd Bayless from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for a conditional future first-round pick.
Last season, Bayless averaged 8.5 points, 2.3 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 17.6 minutes of play over 74 games (11 starts). But the highlight of his career may well have been coaching MVP’s editor Greg Tanner in a media game at the NBA adidas 5-United event at the O2 in 2009.
