Pops Mensah-Bonsu is targeting a Christmas return for the New Orleans Hornets after recovering from surgery.
The Great Britain forward has not played in almost a month, having been placed on the NBA team’s inactive list.
However Mensah-Bonsu has revealed that he was forced to go under the knife after a freak accident had unfortunate side effects.
“I hit someone in the mouth and it got infected,†he said. “I’m just getting back from the elbow surgery. I’m hoping to be back at Christmas.â€
Since the Londoner’s last appearance, New Orleans has signed David Anderson, intensifying competition on the front line.
In seven appearances this season, he averaged 0.3 points and 1.6 rebounds.
Meanwhile, his fellow GB forward Kieron Achara has been cleared to resume light practice after being told he will not require surgery on his knee.
The Scot, who has been out for six weeks since picking up an injury playing for Lega B side Barcellona, will rehab in Stirling during Christmas but aims to return to action early in the New Year.
