MERSEY WILL SURVIVE: GARBELOTTO

Mersey Tigers coach Tony Garbelotto expects the newly-crowned BBL play-off champions to survive their current financial crisis and remain in the British Basketball League next season.

The Liverpool side, whose players have not yet been paid in full, secured the domestic treble in Birmingham on Saturday with a 79-74 win over Sheffield Sharks.

However it is expected that the summer will bring mass departures with Garbelotto’s own future equally uncertain.

“Everything is up in the air,” he said.

“We’ll see what the next month holds. The club is still there. I believe the club will still run next year at its new base.

"And there is not one player on this team who I won’t go into bat for, whether they want to go abroad or stay here, because they’ve backed me 1000 per cent this year.”
