USA FLATTEN FINS

Team USA get their Fiba Basketball World Cup off to a strong start, crushing Finland 114-55.

Despite talk in some quarters that the American squad is the weakest it’s been for years, the NBA stars dominated the game throughout – even keeping the Fins scoreless during the entire second quarter.

The game was by no means a highlights-fest, but Rudy Gay – the last addition to the team, after Paul George went down – caught a nice oop from James Harden.

And Derrick Rose showed once again that his knees appear to be OK as he went by his defender for the nice two-handed jam.

Elsewhere, Pau Gasol went for 33, as Spain handed Iran a 90-60 loss.

And the Philippines nearly pulled off a huge upset, taking Croatia to overtime on the back of a 28 point, 12 rebound performance from Andray Blatche. However, the European team took it 81-78.
