UNITED CUT THROUGH DOWNING RED TAPE

Surrey United have completed the signing of ex-Leicester Riders guard Anthony Downing – but only after sorting out a visa wrangle to bring in the American.
MVP understands that his original arrival in Guildford, two weeks ago, was scuppered by a failure to hold the required paperwork, days after United had released Lavione West to make room for a new permit player.
West remained with the team with the outgoing recruit said to have agreed to help out United, despite his impending departure.
While Surrey coach and GM Jack Majewski declined comment over the work permit issue, a source close to Downing claimed at the time that he and the team are “resolving it now.”
Last season, the then-rookie, who averaged 15.5 points per game, missed the middle of Leicester’s campaign after sustaining a broken jaw, thought to have been incurred while on a night out in the city.
United have also signed American veteran Rick Cardoso, a Portuguese passport holder who has spent previous time in that league and also in France.
