Alberto Lorenzo, Drew Sullivan, Jamie Smith and Lloyd Gardner have been named as Great Britain coach Tony Garbelotto’s new assistants.

The quarter will be on the bench for the start of the team’s World Cup qualifying campaign later this month with Lorenzo reprising the role he held under Joe Prunty.

Smith – a former Boston Celtics staffer – also becomes British Basketball’s Head of Scouting and Analytics, as his role is broadened to support all Great Britain teams.

“I will be delighted to work with this coaching staff that will prepare for these opening World Cup qualifiers,” said Garboletto.

“Alberto will bring huge insight from the last few years and ensure a smooth transition from the last few years, where we have made huge strides as a programme. I am looking forward to working with Lloyd Gardner as well as with Drew, who will bring a breadth of experience with GB to the role.”

“I can’t wait to start when we get together in Leicester later this month.”

The shake-up means no involvement for outgoing assistant Nate Reinking for the first time in over a decade with the Olympian, second to Sullivan in all-time caps, unable to continue.

It is understood while his employers at NBA G-League side Canton Charge were happy to let him remain on the staff, logistics proved insurmountable.
