Leicester Riders are beaten 90-78 by Dinamo Sassari in their opening FIBA Europe Cup tie.

Rob Paternostro’s men held their own in the opening period against the Italians but faltered in the second as they fell 41-34 behind at half-time.

And despite a game-high 23 points from DeAndre Burnett and a retort in the third, a 9-0 run from the visitors during the fourth quarter took them decisively clear.

The BBL champions, who belatedly open their domestic campaign at home against London City Royals on Saturday, travel to Hungary to take Vulcan in their second Europe Cup tie next Wednesday.

Vulcan lost 79-76 to fellow Hungarian side Szolnok in their opener.
