Jay Williams is out as London City Royals head coach.

Despite winning the BBL Trophy in the club’s debut campaign and reaching the Playoff final, the former England international was informed last week that he would not be retained for a second season.

Williams, who is understood to have turned down a summertime offer to coach in Bahrain, was let go by principal owner Jon Sawyer.

No-one from the club was available for comment.

Royals have yet to sign any new players this off-season although a number were given two-year deals as the Crystal Palace-based outfit spent extravagantly in their quest to make an instant impact.

Earlier this summer, founding general manager Nhamo Shire also left with club chiefs now having less than one month to confirm a roster and venue for the new British Basketball League campaign.

BBL sources insist is presently no concern about the viability or future of the Royals.

But, as previously reported, there have been myriad behind-scenes issues to address heading into their second season, not least the use of Crystal Palace as a home and the building of a fan base.
