The Women’s British Basketball League has been granted a new ten-year operating licence.

The deal follows almost a year of negotiations between the British Basketball Federation and the leading female teams.

A point of contention had been a request to follow the lead of their male counterparts by paying an annual levy into the governing body.

However MVP has learnt that figure has been reduced to zero for at least the first three years of the package with the potential for further discussion then.

The 12 WBBL franchises have also, for the first time, agreed to co-fund a central marketing executive for the league who can attempt to bring in much-needed revenue.
