EAGLES’ CHAPMAN IN TV SPECIAL WITH D-WADE

Newcastle Eagles guard Joe Chapman is set to star in a televised rematch of his most controversial high school basketball game…with Dwyane Wade coaching him.

10 years ago, two Chicago-area high schools – Bloom Township and Brother Rice – faced off for the chance to make the final eight in the Illinois State championship.

Tied with just 4 seconds left, Bloom went for the win with a baseline jumper which missed. But Chapman was right there to tip it home and seal the victory. But ever since, an argument has raged about whether he got it off before the buzzer. Now, as part of the “Replay” TV series, the two squads will meet again for a rematch.

A decade on from their high school days, a lot of the players aren’t exactly in the same sort of shape they were…so sponsors Gatorade have put them through a rigorous training and nutrition programme. They’ve also drafted in NBA superstars Dwyane Wade and Dwight Howard to act as honorary coaches for each team.

For Wade, it’s personal. That year, this very same Brother Rice team knocked his Richards High team out of the state playoffs. So in coaching Bloom, Flash can exact a certain measure of revenge.

Meanwhile, Chapman went on to play with Wade on the 2003 Marquette Final Four team. So now D-Wizzle is coaching his former college teammate (who steals the ball off of him in the video below!!)

It all goes down tonight at Chicago’s St. Xavier University’s Shannon Center. The game will be shown live on Replay’s website and Comcast’s Chicago-area website – hopefully these streams will be available to UK audiences.
