Calvin Davis has experienced the glory days at the Jets and while a thrilling 76-75 home win over reigning BBL champions Newcastle Eagles is only a start, the American-born centre believes the good times can come flooding back to the Northgate.

Paul Smith and his team experienced some initial struggles in the Trophy during the first few weeks of the new campaign but having moved to the summit of the BBL Championship record with a perfect three wins from three, it’s little wonder there is a feelgood factor at the surprise early pacesetters.

“We definitely have some real momentum right now and the guys are feeling great after this win against Newcastle,” claimed Davis.

“For us to be successful, we have to treat games like this as a Cup Final and that is exactly what we did. We worked so hard in practice all week and it came good for us.

“I think we appreciate that teams like Newcastle are a tough Championship team and if we want to compete with them, it’s important we show them respect but also don’t fear them.

“We are capable of big things and although it is just one game and we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, I think the guys feel excited about the possibilities ahead – but only if we keep working hard.”
