Glasgow Rocks have ended their long search for a centre by signing 6’10” Dutch international Michael Kingma until the end of the season.

The Australian-born giant finished last term Down Under with Rockhampton Rockets after previous stints in New Zealand, Sweden and the Netherlands.

The 31-year old, who is due to arrive in Scotland on Tuesday, had a bit-part playing a Wookiee in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

However Rocks coach Sterling Davis expects him to claim a starring role when he makes his BBL debut against Worthing next weekend.

“Michael is a guy who was on my radar earlier in the summer but at the time, things just didn’t suit,” said Davis.

“Surprisingly he was still available at this point in the season but he plays exactly the position we are short on.

“He will definitely give us the size inside we have been looking for.  He has a knack for the ball when it comes to rebounding but is also an offensive threat with his ability to face up to the opposition.  He will definitely give us the option to throw different looks at teams.”
