Mersey Tigers have finally completed the signing of Great Britain shooting guard Nate Reinking after a protracted courtship.

And the American-born veteran, who has agreed a deal until the end of the season, is set to make his debut in Sunday’s BBL Cup quarter-final against Glasgow Rocks.

35-year-old Reinking- who began his professional career with Sheffield before a long stint in Belgium – has spent the past three weeks training with the Merseysiders since he was released by Turkish League outfit Mersin.

The Tigers were forced to wait for his contract situation to be resolved but have now moved swiftly to bring him into the fold. And following an abortive one-week spell in pre-season which saw Reinking arrive, then opt out to go to Turkey, head coach Tony Garbelotto is hoping it will prove a long-term stay.

“We held his registration from that first time so the good thing is we didn’t have to get international clearance,” he revealed.

“It got held up this week because our owner (Gary Townsend) was in a minor car crash. But he texted me to tell me the deal was done.”
