SHEFFIELD CRUISE INTO CUP FINAL

Sheffield Sharks will get the opportunity to retain the BBL Cup after they stormed into the 2011 final of the competition with another dominant display against Cheshire Jets after securing a 97-80 victory in second leg of their semi-final.
The home team were on top pretty much from start to finish in a powerful performance as they ran riot in the first half to head into the locker rooms at the half with a 28 point gap in the game and a mammoth 50 point margin in the tie.
Ryan Patton was on fire and after only two quarters of action had already sunk five triples. While the Jets enjoyed a strong third quarter, the hosts eased away in the last period.
Patton finished with a superb double-double of 24 points and 10 assists while Paul Williams also claimed an impressive double-double of 18 points and 19 rebounds.
The visitors always faced something of a near mission impossible to overturn a 22 point margin on the road and the tie, if not the game was effectively all over after 20 minutes.
The Jets had a nightmare first half and were steamrollered as Patton drained three after three from downtown to help his team to a massive 28-point lead at the break. The home team amassed 32 points during the second period while also excelling at the other end of the floor to hold Paul Smith’s team to just 11 points.
When the teams returned to the floor, Sharks were an incredible 50 points up in the tie and Jets were left to play for pride which probably accounted for a third quarter renaissance led by the irrepressible Quemont Greer.
The Jets worked really hard and outscored the Sharks heavily which was not surprising with the home defence AWOL and giving up a huge 37 points during the period.
However the Sharks came out of their mini-slump and stepped up the intensity again in the last quarter to finish strongly and spark scenes of jubilation as they celebrated having another showpiece BBL Final against Mersey Tigers to look forward to.
