Worthing Thunder guard Adam Williams says his side were hugely relieved after ending their 16-game losing streak.

Their 95-88 victory at Milton Keynes on Friday came just a week after they had allowed fellow strugglers Essex Pirates their first victory of the campaign.

Worthing coach Gary Smith saw the streak end

With the club in financial difficulty, and seeking fresh investors, it was a welcome shot in the arm for the south coast outfit. And Williams, who hit 36 points, declared: “I wasn’t too bad!”

The Welshman said: “As a team we played really well with some great intensity and energy as well as – finally – some great defence. We switched to a 3-2 zone, and it worked for us with a great all-round game.

“It was great to get the win as we’ve been struggling. But we’ve been in a lot of games, and realistically we could have won another five. It just hasn’t worked out for us, so it was great to get the win and especially good that it’s on Sky TV.”

Thunder couldn’t follow up that victory as blew a second half lead against Guildford on Sunday.

“We were 11 up at Heat at one stage, and we could have won that one as well but it didn’t happen,” he said.

“We now have a week to prepare for Worcester next week, and hope we can come in with the same energy and upset the play-off race.”

Kingma: Rocks must wake up

Mike Kingma says Glasgow Rocks players must stop feeling sorry for themselves or risk losing touch with the BBL title race.

The Kelvin Hall outfit dropped to fourth place after a crushing loss to Leicester Riders which put a major dent in their hopes. And the Australian centre admits the Rocks have no one to blame but themselves for a sorry showing.

“It was disheartening to lose in Sheffield on Friday and that carried over in Leicester,” he said.

“We were deflated and low in confidence. And they sniffed that out and out-played us in every facet. Now we’re back to square one.

“We have to get back to winning ways. But we haven’t fallen apart. I’m still confident we can win the league title. The way results have been going for everyone the least few weeks, it’s not over yet. We’ve just made it harder for ourselves.”
