FINCH BULLISH ABOUT CHICAGO CAMP
- Updated: April 4, 2011
Chris Finch is set to stage Great Britain's training camp to Chicago this summer in a bid to smooth the participation of Luol Deng and Ben Gordon.
It would be the second time in five years that the national side has centred its preparations in the USA following the use of facilities in central Florida three summers ago.
The decision, which is thought to hinge on pre-Eurobasket friendlies in South America, could help secure the early arrival of the NBA duo whose involvement might still hinge on the effect of their league's potential lockout.
However with Finch desperate to begin building a team for the 2012 Olympics, the impetus to stay Stateside, he claims, might pay dividends.
"We devise our program (sic) differently every year based on our players and the tournament," he told USA Today.
"There's a very good chance we start our training camp in Chicago this summer because we want to make it as easy as possible for Luol (Deng) and Ben (Gordon), and we have some other guys in that part of the country as well."
GB is set to play in warm-up games in Brazil and Latvia, as well as the Olympic test event in London, before travelling to Lithuania for Eurobasket.
