SURREY SET TO HOST GB FRIENDLIES
- Updated: April 8, 2011
Great Britain's men and women are set to play low-key friendlies in Surrey this summer as part of their build-up to their respective Eurobasket finals campaigns.
Following an initial training camp across the Atlantic, Chris Finch's side will return to home soil for a three-nation event against New Zealand and the Netherlands at Guildford's Sports Park.
They will face the Dutch on August 8 and the Tall Blacks two days later (7pm tip-off) with their guests meeting on August 8 (3pm).
Meanwhile, Great Britain’s women will face Germany, Latvia and Cuba in their only appearances against international opposition this summer.
The four-country invitational tournament will take place from May 18-21 with Tom Maher's side opening up against Latvia before meeting Germany and Cuba on subsequent days. All three European teams are bound for Eurobasket in Poland while the Cubans will compete in the Americas Championship in Chile.
The event will have a final and third-place play-off on the final day.
"I couldn't be happier with the teams British Basketball has assembled to play in our tournament at Surrey Sports Park,” said Maher.
“Cuba is a traditional world basketball power and Latvia has a couple of players that are legitimate stars of the women's game. Furthermore playing Germany gives us the opportunity to measure our progress from last year."
GB also face the WNBA's Atlanta Dream in Manchester on May 29.
