HANKE SEEKING SLICE OF DONALD LUCK
- Updated: June 9, 2011
Randall Hanke says he’s looking for Major glory – after being inspired to aim high by Britain’s current sporting poster boy Luke Donald.
The New York-born centre, who made his Great Britain debut two years ago, was introduced to the world’s top ranked golfer during a photo session with GQ Magazine.
Hanke spent last season with Sweden’s Norrkøping Dolphins, re-igniting his career and giving fresh impetus to his hopes of returning to the GB squad this summer.
But he admits that trading tales with Donald was both a thrill and a spur to himself.
“Luke’s an unbelievable guy,†said Hanke. “He’s not only a great golfer but a great person. I don’t get nervous in front of many people but he was one of them.
“Basketball may be my profession but golf has always been my passion and meeting him was a humbling experience.â€
The former Glasgow Rocks recruit admits he has renewed ambitions after his Swedish detour, setting his sights on a move to southern Europe. “I have a lot of confidence right now,†he confirmed.
And with Chris Finch finalising his GB squad for this summer, Hanke will wait and hope for the email which might keep his biggest dream alive.
“Playing in 2012 for GB is my breakthrough and ultimate goal in life,†he said.
“Even though I still have aspirations of playing in the NBA, to me there’s no greater honour than playing in the Olympics.
“And playing in them in your hometown is a dream come true.â€
