ACHARA, EKPERIGIN HEADED TO SPAIN
- Updated: August 8, 2011
Great Britain international Kieron Achara has signed a one-year deal with Spanish first division side Manresa.
The Stirling-born forward, who is currently with the GB’s squad, joins from Italian club Barcellona where he averaged 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last term. And he now will get the chance to impress in Europe’s top league.
“I’m ecstatic to have the opportunity to go and make the transition from Italy to the Spanish ACB,” said the Scot, who began his career with Falkirk Fury.
“I’m excited about playing in Manresa and looking forward to the upcoming season.”
Manresa sporting director Pepe Capevilla added: “He’s multi-skilled in his interior game and can play the four and five spots. He has the ability to get rebounds and put-backs thanks for his tenacity and he can be a force.”
Meanwhile fellow GB squad member Laurence Ekperigin has signed for ACB rivals Gran Canaria after finishing last season with Biella of Italy.
“He’s a young athletic intense player who we liked when we saw him at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament two years ago, confirmed GM Himar Ojeda. “We believe can help us.”
Elsewhere., Dan Clarks has picked up his contract option at Estudiantes and will remain in Madrid for at least one more season.
