MID-EAST BEEF ERUPTS IN BASKETBRAWL
- Updated: August 4, 2011
Tempers flare and shoes fly at a Bahrain v Kuwait game.
The two Arab nations were competing in the 13th Gulf Cooperation Council Junior Basketball Championship over the weekend.
It all kicked off when, with just over two minutes to go in the game, Kuwait’s Hussain Busheri fouled Bahraini Mohammed Buallay. But it went to another level when a Kuwaiti player hurled his shoe into a crowd of his opponents. In many Middle Eastern cultures, throwing a shoe is amongst the most disrespectful acts a person can commit (remember when George W Bush nearly got it in Iraq?!)
The highlight comes about a minute in when a flying kick sparks a Benny Hill-esque chase scene!
