SULLIVAN TO STAY IN LEICESTER
- Updated: November 28, 2011
Leicester Riders have reached an agreement to keep Great Britain captain Drew Sullivan for the remainder of the season, MVP understands.
The forward joined the Midlands club last month after quitting Mersey Tigers in a row over outstanding wages.
Sullivan has been playing for the Riders on a week-to-week deal but will now remain in the British Basketball League in the run-up to next summer’s Olympic Games where he is expected to skipper the national side.
“Drew is hugely experienced and is a winner, and he knows the BBL,†said Riders coach Rob Paternostro.†We have a relatively young team with 3 BBL rookies in key positions, and I know they all appreciate the experience and insights Sullivan provides. He is very unselfish and makes big contributions at both ends of the court. We were very fortunate to pick him up.”
The Londoner won the treble last year with Mersey, having previously played for Newcastle, as well as overseas in Russia and Spain.
