POPS REVELS IN TURKISH DELIGHT

Pops Mensah-Bonsu has agreed a deal with Besiktas for the rest of this season, claiming it is the perfect preparation for the Olympic Games.
The Great Britain forward, who has been sidelined for the past six months with an injury sustained while playing for French club Asvel, is understood to have been in discussions with a number of teams in recent weeks, both in the NBA and Europe.
However he is bound for Besiktas, who are leading the Turkish League and qualified for the second phase of Eurochallenge but must now cope with the departure of NBA All Star Deron Williams, who has returned to the USA following the end of the lockout.
“I’m glad to be back working again,” said Mensah-Bonsu. “I look forward to getting back on the court and playing some of my best basketball. I made this decision based on the fact that I want to go into next summer’s Olympics with the utmost confidence and a good season of basketball under my belt.”
Mensah-Bonsu’s previous European clubs included Caja Laboral Baskonia, CSKA Moscow and Benetton Treviso.
They had also reached an agreement with Lakers forward Lamar Odom before the dispute was resolved.
