Russia coach David Blatt has claimed Great Britain do not deserve their place in the 2012 Olympic Games.

The Maccabi Tel Aviv playcaller, whose side will have to earn a spot in London via July’s qualifying tournament in Caracas, will put his side against GB in two friendlies in Houston in June.

However he hints that there will be a point to prove after GB were awarded a host spot by FIBA.

“Only because the Olympics are in London this year, the British team received a free pass, and that was at our expense, basically,” Blatt told in an interview with RIA-Novosti.

The British were unworthy of the berth, he added.

“Sports-wise, No, that’s the politics of the situation, and that’s what it is. It’s part of the picture, not a whole lot that I can do about it.”
