Great Britain’s women lost 68-54 to Germany on Friday in the first of three Olympic warm-ups this weekend in Liege.

Tom Maher’s side trailed 34-19 at half-time in the opening game of the Tournoi 4 Nations and eventually fell to their second loss in their three friendlies to date this summer.

The Australian coach will surely demand better ahead of London.

Breaking the early stalemate with a 10-0 run, Germany – paced by a game-high 18 points from Romy Bar – capitalised repeatedly on their opponent’s turnovers to go as much as 18 in front.

With Temi Fagbenle again impressing, GB used their inside game to steadily claw back the deficit, closing to 48-39 at the end of the third quarter.

However they had simply left themselves with too big a hole to dig out of as they dropped to 0-3 this summer.

Jo Leedham had 11 points to lead GB, who face Ukraine on Saturday.
