LENZLY COULD MISS OLYMPICS
- Updated: July 21, 2012
Mike Lenzly is facing Olympic Games heartbreak after he sustained a suspected torn calf muscle during Great Britain’s defeat to the USA in Manchester on Thursday.
The Oxford-born guard, a vital cog in the backcourt, came off during the first quarter and never returned to the game.
Team sources have confirmed that he will be evaluated by British Basketball medical staff this weekend while his team-mates are taking on Tunisia and Belgium in their final two warm-up games before they arrive in London.
Ogo Adegboye, who has remained with the squad, would replace Lenzly in the Olympic squad if he is ruled out of the Games.
Teams can replace injured players until next Friday morning, subject to the approval of FIBA’s Technical Committee.
Kieron Achara says Great Britain will learn the lessons from their humbling at the hands of the USA.
After eight defeats in ten friendlies this summer, Chris Finch’s side will look to go into the Games on a more positive note when they face Olympic outsiders Tunisia on Saturday in Antwerp before a run-out against Belgium on Sunday.
“We struggled to stay together through the tough times in the game (against the Americans),†Achara said. But we learnt a lot from against an elite level side in Team USA so we can only go up from there.â€
