ANDERSON UP FOR FRENCH TEST

rose anderson 568Rose Anderson says Great Britain are ready to make an impression at EuroBasket Women, despite the overhaul in their roster from 12 months ago.

Damian Jennings is set to make up his mind in the next 48 hours on the 12-strong squad that will line up against Serbia in next Saturday’s tournament opener in Trelaze.

Whoever goes, Anderson states, can shine.

“The team dynamic is brilliant. Things have gone really well. We don’t have some of the veteran players but everyone has stepped up and filled their roles.”

It is the French who have been designated as favourites and Les Bleues could potentially block GB’s path into the latter stages.

Yet even after losing to the eventual silver medallists last year, Anderson insists there will be no backing down from the challenge of taking them on in their own backyard.

“Bring it on,” said the Scot. “We’ve played them before. We know what they’ve got. We’ve also got another two teams who are very beatable. So we’ll be firing.

“Everyone’s playing really well. I don’t think we can compare this year to last year. But the team dynamic is brilliant. Things have gone really well. We don’t have some of the veteran players but everyone has stepped up and filled their roles.”

Jennings has spent the past few days re-integrating Jo Leedham into his rotation following her belated arrival from the USA.

The availability of the Bourges guard has massively strengthened his hand and given her team-mates an extra lift.

“It’s good to have Jo back,” said Anderson. “She’s an absolutely brilliant player.

“It was unfortunate she never made the WNBA. We were all hoping she would. But it’s great to have her back.”
