DAVIE MOVES OVER TO BE DURHAM COACH

BRIXTON TOPCATS V DURHAM WILDCATS Brixton Recreational Centre, London. 13.03.11Durham Wildcats have named Lee Davie as their new head coach after Dave Elderkin stepped down from the role. The newcomer will be assisted by long-time player Ralph Bucci who will continue his duties on court with becoming Davie’s number two.

Davie moved over from acting as coach with Team Durham’s women’s basketball team as well as serving as assistant coach for Great Britain Under-20 women and head coach to the England Under- 15 girls development squad.

He has also been a prominent figure in promoting local basketball programmes and sporting initiatives in the region for a number of years.

“I am really eager to get started and begin pre-season training, the team and myself are very excited for the season ahead,” he said.

“We are all working hard to give the fans what they want to see and build a Wildcat basketball team that County Durham can be proud of.”

Elderkin is likely to continue in another position at the club but Wildcats chairman Quentin Roper admitted nothing has been agreed.

“We have talked about Dave playing another role for the club, one that could be equally crucial but focusing on developing the business and commercial arm of the programme,” he revealed.

“He’s currently on holiday but when he gets back I am sure we will sit down again and have another chat about what’s next. Dave established the Wildcats and there will always be a role for him if he wants one.”
