british_basketball_new_logo_568Great Britain senior head coach Peter Buckle is to double up this summer to helm the Under-20 women’s team, replacing Matt Johnson.

The Australian, who is currently without a club, will be assisted by Karen Burton and Matt Harber for the European Championship campaign in Sofia.

Former England youth team manager Ollie Jerram will take on the team management responsibilities.

“I look forward to the opportunity to work with our GB youth players and coaches,” said Buckle, who was offered the post after at least one other British candidate turned it down.

“Commitment to development is important to underpin longer-term success.”

Following the appointment of the team staff, it is anticipated that the invited squad list will be announced in the coming weeks with the preparation camp scheduled to commence on 27 June.

MVP has learned that Buckle has already cut down his initial senior squad ahead of training camp.

However it is understood that a number of selected players are considering skipping this summer’s EuroBasket qualifiers, potentially forcing GB to return to those already discarded with a plea to join up.
