Great Britain’s women pulled out the perfect start to their build-up for next month’s EuroBasket qualifiers with a 60-48 win over Italy on Sunday in Rome.

It was a second win in 24 hours for Peter Buckle’s side with Harvard University centre Temi Fagbenle scoring a game-high 20 points.

But it was a more comfortable showing second time out with the visitors pulling 19 points clear in the first half.

Saturday night fever for GB in 2014 debut

Great Britain women’s marked Stef Collins’ 110th cap by starting the build-up to their EuroBasket campaign with a 59-51 victory over Italy in Rome on Saturday night.

Harvard University sophomore Temi Fagbenle, fresh from arriving back in Europe just 24 hours earlier, produced the standout display with 22 points and seven rebounds as the visitors rallied from nine points down in the third quarter to see off the Azzurre.

With 4:36 remaining in the period, and his side up 49-36, Italy coach Roberto Ricchini changed his whole team and GB responded with a 10-1 run which saw Fagbenle send the guests ahead for the first time in the game.

The centre added nine in the fourth and it was Collins – the first-ever GB international to reach the century – who effectively sealed the win when she landed a three to extend GB’s advantage to 11 with 2:35 left.

The two sides meet again at the same venue in Rome on Sunday with an 18:00 BST tip-off time.
