temi 568Great Britain’s women pulled out a brilliant 74-70 overtime win over Belgium in Antwerp on Wednesday to move to a 3-1 record in their EuroBasket qualifying campaign.

Rachael Vanderwal made two free throws to draw the visitors level at 60-60 with eight seconds left in regulation after they had trailed by as much as 13 in the third period.

“It was a hell of a win for us because we got ourselves into a bit of a hole,” said GB coach Peter Buckle.

“We took some time to adjust to Belgium who were playing very well but we got back to our game plan and had some big contributions from not only the likes of Temi, but many other important cameos too. It was a very good team effort and as the game went on, we began to build more and more momentum as we did a better job at keep getting to the foul line.”

“We were always confident in overtime and a big part of our success was players making free-throws.”

Temi Fagbenle had a team-high 26 points and 11 rebounds for GB, who now return home for successive games in Worcester, starting on Sunday against Macedonia.

In the same group, Lithuania have all but qualified after remaining unbeaten with a 101-59 demolition of the winless Macedonians.

Buckle’s side are now guaranteed at least second place in Group B.

Group B standings: 1. Lithuania 4-0, 2. Great Britain 3-1, 3. Belgium 1-3, 4. Macedonia 0-4.
