Cheshire Phoenix signing Renaldo Major will not be able to join up with the team for the foreseeable future after a foot injury ruled him out of action.
The NBA D-League veteran, once the division’s leading all-time points scorer, was due to link up with the squad late last week, as Coach John Coffino met with the players to begin preparations for the BBL Championship campaign.
But the injury Major has sustained will rule the forward out for a number of months and although both the player and the club are hopeful he may be able to join the club once he has recovered, the Nix have been forced to look for a replacement late in preseason.
“Injuries are part of the sport,” said Coach Coffino. “You accept that. But to start off with a big blow like this is something that is an unexpected and difficult challenge to deal with.
“We all wish Renaldo a speedy recovery and hope his days in a Cheshire kit will come sooner rather than later. Renaldo is very disappointed himself and wanted to come to the UK at 100%. But the Phoenix train moves on and we will persevere.”
The Nix expect to name a replacement for Major in due course.
