USA ARE QUEENS OF THE WORLD

The United States lifted the women’s world championship for the ninth time on Sunday night in Istanbul, defeating Spain 77-64 in the final, with Maya Moore named Tournament MVP.

Tina Charles had a team-high 19 points and eight rebounds for the defending champions who led 48-29 at half-time before hitting cruise control against the European champions.

The Spanish were paced by a game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds from Sancho Lyttle.

It qualifies the Americans directly for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

Earlier, in the third place playoff, Australia hammered hosts Turkey 74-44.
