Great Britain lost 69-63 to the Netherlands in a friendly in Leiden on Friday, despite a game-high 23 points from captain Dan Clark.

After trailing 38-28 at the start of the second quarter, Joe Prunty’s experimental side rebounded with a 12-2 run and led by four with seven minutes left.

But the Dutch, preparing for next month’s EuroBasket, produced a late 6-0 rally behind a team-best 16 points from Roeland Schaftenaar to snatch victory.

“I was really proud of the effort and the energy the guys played with on both sides of the ball,” Prunty said.

“We did a lot of positive things in a close game and it comes down to which side wins those possessions at the end of the game.

“We had a lead of four in the fourth quarter and then a lead of one but they were winning the possessions as they had a little bit better execution and we made one or two mistakes. We have already talked about those teaching moments.”

GB, who handed first caps to Chris Caird and Fahro Alihodzic, face Portugal on Saturday night in their final game of 2015.
