Great Britain’s women will face Italy in Manchester on November 25 in their home opener of EuroBasket 2017 qualifying.

The clash, which comes four days after their campaign to reach the finals in the Czech Republic starts with a trip to meet Montenegro in Podgorica, will be held at the 1000-capacity Amaechi Centre.

It represents a major downgrade in ambition for cash-strapped British Basketball with GB previously opting for larger capacity venues, including in the last qualifying series which was based at the Worcester Arena.

GB are currently without a head coach after the exit of Peter Buckle following their winless run at EuroBasket Women 2015 with national teams director Warwick Cann’s days thought to be numbered due to a lack of support from senior figures within the organisation.

It is still unconfirmed whether leading player Jo Leedham will end her own international exile and re-join the side.
