Current Great Britain internationalist Erin McGarrachan has been named in the national team for next month’s FISU World University Games in Xiamen.
The Scot, presently playing for WBBL outfit Leicester Riders, is one of three Loughborough University students included in the squad bound for China for the 3×3 tournament along with Georgia Jones who previously competed in 2012.
“The Championships in China are an exciting opportunity for our women’s basketball squad and I am sure all the student-athletes involved will make the most of the chance to compete on the world stage,†team manager Jo Emmett said.
Northumbria University will travel as the male representative of Basketball England following a very successful BUCS season last year culminating in victory over Durham University in the Championship final. The four man team featuring Lewis Champion, Damoy Robertson, Jack Preston and Garnett Watson.
The event, featuring 24 teams from 11 different countries, will take place over a three day period, and will also involve a 3-point Contest for the Women and a Dunk Contest for the Men.
