Joe Prunty is to continue as head coach of the Great Britain men as they bid to qualify for EuroBasket 2017 in August.

The American, who took charge initially in 2013, will learn his opponents when the draw is made on Friday.

His future had been put into doubt when British Basketball officials declined to confirm his return last month but a contract extension has now been agreed with the Milwaukee Bucks Associate Head Coach.

“I am honoured to be able to continue as Head Coach of the GB Men’s senior team,” said Prunty.

“We are excited for the opportunity to make it back to the Final Round.”

His return is a boon for the heads of the incoming British Basketball Federation who are expected to restructure the way the national team programme is set up ahead of the integration of the Under-18 and Under-16 sides.

Prunty is understood to have been the lone point of regular contact with the players in recent years but has yet to have the services of either Luol Deng or Joel Freeland.
