Great Britain lose 88-80 to Hungary in London in a major blow to their pursuit of a spot in the 2017 EuroBasket finals.

GB skipper Kieron Achara was a perfect 4-for-4 as the hosts led 44-38 at half-time and with centre Gabe Olaseni dominant en route to a team-best 17 points, their cushion grew to 11 in the third.

But an 18-4 run from the visitors reversed the momentum and although GB kept pace at the start of the fourth, the group leaders pulled away in the closing minutes with ten unanswered points to all but clinch their berth in next summer’s showpiece.

“Unfortunately we lost, but there’s still a lot to play for,” Olaseni said.

“The offensive rebounds Hungary did get, they were able to execute and get second chance points.

“Overall it was a solid game, they just made more plays down the stretch.”

Elsewhere in Group G, Macedonia beat Luxembourg 82-74.

Standings. 1. Hungary 4-0, 2. Great Britain 2-2, 3. Macedonia 2-2, 4. Luxembourg 0-4.
