José Maria Buceta has announced a 15-strong Great Britain women’s squad for this summer.

With the side failing to qualify for EuroBasket 2017, the Spaniard will use a camp, plus a series of friendlies in Belarus, as preparation for the qualification campaign for the 2019 finals.

The first camp takes place from the 15–20 May, followed by the tournament in Minsk from 21-25 of May which will see the players face some stern competition from Argentina, Croatia and the hosts.

There will be a further mini-camp in June but, as expected, Jo Leedham has opted out to recuperate while Temi Fagbenle remains Stateside to try and earn a roster spot with the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx. Ella Clark has elected to spend the off-season playing in the Netball Superleague for Loughborough Lightning.

“This is the first activity of the new campaign of the GB senior national team,” Buceta said. “This will be an important experience to improve the level of the team and an opportunity to see new players at international level. Thank you to all the players who have accepted this new challenge for their generous commitment to the team.”

Stef Collins remains in the squad despite speculation she might retire from international duty. Janice Monakana and Melita Emanuel-Carr return from the USA after completing their collegiate careers while Abigail Johnson – who is bound for her freshman year at St Bonaventure University – is handed a call-up.
