KAROL IS LIONS CATCH

London Lions have named Polish playcaller Mariusz Karol as their new head coach.

Following the news that Nigel Lloyd has stepped down, Lions have moved quickly to acquire Karol who worked with the club three years ago on a year’s sabbatical in the UK.

With vast experience, the 51-year-old Karol started his career in women’s basketball winning the Polish League with Gdynia Warta in 1996, then moving on to the men, Karol has experience with a number of clubs in the Premier League of Poland (PLK), primarily winning the Polish Cup in 2010 with Koszalin, but also coaching Prokom Sopot, Turow Zgorzelec and Rosa Radom.

Karol said: “I am pleased to be able to take this position with the London Lions, I enjoyed visiting there in 2015, London is a great city and it gave me an opportunity to understand BBL basketball, I am keen to achieve the goals set by the club for the coming season.”

Lions Chief Executive, Vince Macaulay was pleased with the surprise signing.

“We all know that the demands of BBL basketball have increased immensely, if we are to maximise all our potential then it’s all hands on deck, Mariusz will bring a full time effort and a different look to us, I know he’s deciding on players already and he will be given every support here”.
