CLARK GIVEN CAPTAIN’S STEER

Dan Clark says it’s a “great honour” after he was named as Great Britain’s new captain.

As expected, the London-born forward, 30, was confirmed as Kieron Achara’s successor in the role ahead of Thursday’s EuroBasket pre-qualifier against Austria in Manchester.

“It’s a great privilege,” he said. “I’ve been lucky enough to be under some good captains over the years with Drew (Sullivan) and Kieron. A lot of other veteran players that you learn off. Hopefully I can pass some things onto the younger guys.”

Surrey Scorchers’ guard Josh Steel will get his debut in the contest as GB look for a convincing win to open up their three-team group.

“More than anything it’s just to come together,” Clark admitted. “In previous games, when times have got tough, we’ve fallen apart. Everyone has gone by themselves.”
