THOMMO STICKS IN LEICESTER

Andy Thomson has agreed a new one-year deal at Leicester Riders.

The veteran centre is now set to enter his fourth season with the Riders after helping the club retain the British Basketball League Playoff Trophy for a third consecutive season at the O2 Arena this May, his first trophy lift as captain of the club.

The British forward is keen to get back on the court in a Riders jersey next season.

“It’s great that I can officially say I’m back with for another year with the Riders,” he said.

“Working with Rob again and aiming at more success was the main driving force in resigning with the club.

“Myself and Nic have made our home here so it was the best and right decision and I’m proud to be leading the team out in front of the great Riders fans.”

With both Leicester and London Lions passing up in European competition, a rejigged domestic front will be the focus, added Thomson, with the new format for the league and the addition of Playoff series for the BBL.

“Personally I am looking forward to next season with a different schedule layout and a Playoff series structure we have wanted for a long time. I can’t wait to get started!”

Coach Rob Paternostro is glad to have the leader that Thomson is back in a red jersey next season.

“It’s great to have Andy back, during his 3 seasons his talent, leadership and intelligence have been vital for us. He knows what it takes to win in this league as a versatile big who is skilled and enjoys competing whether it’s practice or a game .

“We have seen him deliver in many important moments throughout his time here in Leicester and look forward to next season.”

Thomson and the Riders team will begin preseason in Leicester in August ready for the start of the BBL season in September.

Bristol Flyers have brought back UK guard Chris Taylor and Greek guard Panos Mayindombe on one-year deals. Plymouth Raiders signed US centre Tyrell Johnson out of Appalachian State University
