Great Britain guard Andrew Lawrence has joined London City Royals.

The long-anticipated switch sees the Surrey-born playmaker move from Italian A2 side Latina where he averaged 15 points and 4 assists per game last term.

Lawrence had admitted he was open to a move to the BBL when talking to MVP earlier this summer and will join a Royals side in flux following the arrival of new coach Lloyd Gardner.

The London 2012 Olympian recently joined a Loughborough Select on a tour of China and is the first new arrival in south London this off-season.

The club have also named Daniel James as associate head coach. He is likely to join Gardner in helping to expand the Royals nascent academy programme.

“I am very excited to continue with last year’s momentum and help push British Basketball forward and for the chance to work with and nurture grassroots basketball here in London with the London City Royals community outreach programmes,” he said.
