Callum Jones will continue his career at Sheffield Sharks.
The 34-year-old, recently ushered out from Manchester Giants after eight seasons as part of a new broom, had admitted he was not yet ready to call time on his top-flight career.
And the England international now crosses the Pennines for a fresh start.
“I still feel like I have a lot of basketball left in me and can add value to any team,” he said. “I’m so appreciative to the Sharks organisation for the opportunity and am looking forward to getting back to playing. The roster so far looks strong and with the familiarity and so many guys returning, we will be able to have a positive start.â€
Callum averaged 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists across all competitions last season.
Rocks re-Branded
Glasgow Rocks have handed Isa Brandon a chance to follow in the family footsteps, 20 years after his Dad served as the club’s first-ever coach.
The Yorkshire-born guard grew up in Florida where BBL legend Jim moved following his two-year stint at the helm of the Rocks during their birth in Edinburgh.
But the 23-year-old, who joins from rivals Plymouth, has now become player-boss Gareth Murray’s first new signing of the summer.
And he said: “I have been blessed to be able to sign with the Glasgow Rocks. Not only a winning team but an organisation that has lineage, being the team my pops Jim Brandon coached back when they were known as the Edinburgh Rocks.
“As a young player, I know that this will be an opportunity for me to have a major impact in the team’s success. Coach and I have talked and he knows what I want out of myself and where I project myself as a player. I feel we both are on the same page.â€
Ed a Lion again
London Lions have re-signed Angolan shooting guard Ed Lucas.
He joined the Lions mid-season last term following the collapse of London City Royals with the 27-year-old averaged 10 points a game, shooting 40% from behind the arc and going perfect at the free throw line.
“I’m very happy to be back with the Lions,” said Lucas. “A lot of unfinished business was left on the table last season, so this year I’m just looking to carry on from where we left off and more.
“Also with the Basketball Champions League to look forward to, it’s going to be a tough but exciting new challenge and opportunity for us as a team to showcase the best of British basketball on the European stage. With the guys we’ve got on the team, I know we’ll all buy into winning and we can definitely cause a stir. How far we go will ultimately be down to how hard we fight. I can’t wait to get on the floor and represent London.”
Hex strikes Giants
Manchester Giants have signed American forward Lyle Hexom who played one game for Sweden’s Djurgarden last season.
Head coach Danny Byrne said: “Lyle is a flat out scorer, with a huge amount of offensive variety to his game. His ability to score from almost anywhere and in so many different ways, at his size, makes him extremely difficult for opposition defences to cover.â€
“Despite his scoring ability making the headlines, Lyle is also a solid rim protector, and was third in the entire NAIA in blocked shots a couple of seasons ago. He has averaged around two blocks per game in each of his last three seasons.â€
“His successful college career took him to All-American status and to the NBA Summer League. After a difficult season last time out, we are pleased to have secured the services of a potentially elite talent, and believe that this will be his breakout opportunity as a professional.â€
