Leicester Riders and Sevenoaks Suns will face off in the re-arranged WBBL Cup final.

As previously revealed by MVP, the game – postponed from last Sunday – has been rescheduled  Friday 12 February at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester and will be screened live on Sky Sports.

Sevenoaks Suns had withdrawn from the originally scheduled date due to Covid-19 concerns and were to be replaced by Nottingham Wildcats, who they had met in the semi-final.

The game was called off when Leicester were also forced into self-isolation protocols and reserves Cardiff could not step in.

Both team’s reinstatement to the Final, the league said in a statement, was “decided by a vote of all Women’s British Basketball League clubs in line with Covid-19 rule amendments”.

Len Busch, Sevenoaks Suns’ head coach, said: “We are thrilled to be getting back to basketball starting with the Cup Final on February 12th. It will pit two of the top WBBL teams of the past few years in a Final.

“We have met Riders in four finals in recent years, two Trophies and two Playoff finals. I am hopeful that it will be a good advertisement for the WBBL and our talented athletes.”

Jesper Sandberg, head coach of Leicester Riders, added:“We have been working to get here since we started pre-season training in the summer. It’s our first Cup Final and we are really excited to play Sevenoaks for the title.

“They are a very strong team and always push us to play at our highest level. We look forward to a tough challenge but we will be ready.”
