Azania Stewart is un-retiring to join Leicester Riders.

The forward / centre, a member of Great Britain’s 2012 Olympic team, last played in 2018 when representing England at the Commonwealth Games.

Recently, the 31-year-old, who won 101 GB caps, had served as a member of the GB women’s staff as well as commentating for FIBA’s media productions.

Considered one of GB’s best products of all time, London-born Stewart joins a Riders team which recently won the WBBL Cup and is chasing a domestic treble.

She said: “The coaches over at Leicester wanted some veteran presence to help the team and they took their chances with me. I know a lot of a league is upset because if they knew I was coming out of retirement maybe they would have called.

“As the Covid co-ordinator for GB seniors, I’m a practice player for the team to give players like Temi Fagbenle rest.

“I really enjoyed it and thought ‘wow, could I do this again’?”

Oaklands Wolves have signed GB guard Melita Emanuel-Carr, who spent last season with BA London Lions.
