Great Britain have landed a dream draw in the qualifiers for EuroBasket Women 2023.

Chema Buceta’s side – who failed to reach the 2021 Finals – were placed with Greece, Estonia and Portugal in Group G in what looks to be the weakest pool on offer.

Captain Chantelle Handy said: “We are excited about the draw. We know Greece and Portugal well as we’ve had them in the qualifying windows in the past. We need to focus on us and what we need to do in order to win.

“We know it will be hard as all the teams in our group are tough so it will be a fight in every game. We have to get back on track so our development over the next year and half is very important to our success.”

Ireland, returning to this level, face daunting clashes with Belarus, Czech Republic and the Netherlands.

The winners of each group progress to the finals plus the four best runners-up among the ten groups.

Group A: Belgium; Bosnia and Herzegovina; Germany; North Macedonia
Group B: France; Ukraine; Lithuania; Finland
Group C: Spain; Hungary; Romania; Iceland
Group D: Turkey; Slovenia; Poland; Albania
Group E: Serbia; Croatia; Bulgaria
Group F: Russia; Montenegro; Denmark; Austria
Group G: Greece; Great Britain; Portugal; Estonia
Group H: Italy; Slovakia; Luxembourg; Switzerland
Group I: Belarus; Czech Republic; Netherlands; Ireland
Group J: Sweden; Latvia; Israel

The 10 group winners and the four best second-placed teams will earn the 14 tickets from the Qualifiers to the Finals. A total of 16 teams will compete at FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2023, with two berths reserved for Israel and Slovenia.

For the second-placed teams across all 10 groups to be ranked on a like-for-like basis, their results against the fourth-placed teams in the groups of four will not be taken into consideration.

In case one or both of the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2023 hosts finish among the 14 spots that qualify for the event, then the next best second-placed team(s) will also qualify.

The FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2023 Qualifiers will be played over three windows on November 11-14, 2021, November 24-27, 2022, and February 24-27, 2023.
